Studio Production- Journalism Contact

While looking for presenters we have decided to contact the University of Kent's Journalism course.

This is my email;

Dear Mr Reeves,

I am a student at the University for the Creative Arts studying Television Production, we are currently producing a panelists show in which we are looking for panelists and presenters, a fellow student in my course has contacted you before and we have found that your students are very helpful and good journalists. The presenter and panelists will be discussing a series of topics with other panelists, we are looking for confident, strong and opinionated people that will be happy to get involved.  We will be doing the filming in March at the Maidstone Television Studios, and would like for you to contact your students to discuss this opportunity with them.

If any of your students are interested please could they send a personal profile to this email address, there will be auditions. Please contact me if you would like any further information.

Kind Regards
Roxanne Meats

After this email I gave a follow up phone call in which they then put out an advert to their students to contact me, I have had two students apply for presenter positions.

Studio Production- Politics contact

While looking for a panelist to talk about voting I have contacted the University of Kent's Politics department. I will be looking to ring them after the meeting on Tuesday.

This is the email I sent;

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am a Student at the University for the Creative Arts, studying Television Production, we are currently producing a panelist show in which we would like to find certain types of people with a strong knowledge of the topics discussed. We are debating talking about voting, discussing and informing people about why they should vote a student studying politics would be a good source of knowledge. We are looking for confident,strong and opinionated people that are passionate for the topics. We will be doing the filming in March at the Maidstone Television Studios, and would like for you to contact you students to discuss this opportunity with them.

If any of your students are interested please could they send a personal profile to this email address, there will be auditions. Please contact me if you would like any further information.

Kind Regards
Roxanne Meats

Studio Production- Fine Art Contact

For the Panelists we are contacting local Universities for students that can argue points on the Panel, the first University I contacted is UCA for the Fine Art course to hopefully talk about the Graffiti ideas.

My email;

Dear Terry Perk,

I am a student at University for the Creative Arts in Rochester, we are currently making a television show called 'Interchatter', and we are searching for Panelists to come in and talk about some chosen topics. We are looking at your Fine Art course as one of our topics is discussing Graffiti, Vandalism or Art. I was hoping that you would be able to contact your students for us and ask if they would like to take part in the panellist show, we are looking for people who are opinionated, strong and confident. This will take place in Maidstone Studios in March, they would be accompanied on the panel by journalists and politics students.

If any are interested please could they send us a personal profile and show reel if possible, there will be auditions, you can contact me at this email address for any other information that you may need.

Kind Regards
Roxanne Meats

I soon got a reply:

Hi Roxanne

Thanks for your email. I'll put a message on MyUCA and mention it at our weekly PG briefing. I'll give them your email address and let them deal with you directly if that's ok.

Kind regards and good luck with the project.

Terry

Professional Practice- Ideas

After the briefing we were given options to what we can do for this unit. Our dissertation is our own question which is going to lead to lots of research and will need to be thought about before the first lecture in which Kath will help us decide what would be the best route to take. I am currently looking at how serial killers are glorified in television series, such as Dexter and The Fall. This is an initial idea that will need more research before I decide if I would like to do it.

For the second half of the unit I would like to be doing a placement at ITV News in Maidstone to work in a news room. Laura has contacted her contact in the news room to see if they would want to have me there. If the original idea falls through I would think about contacting the Kent Film Office and some other companies from what I found online. I have applied for a work placement at Kent Film Office, at the moment they can only offer general office roles but I find that as long as I am in that environment I would be able to learn more about that side of production.

During the 1st Production meeting as Assistant Producer I decided that I would take notes for my own reference.

Studio Production- Applications

As part of this unit if we do not become the producer from the ideas pitched we are able to apply for 3 other jobs, putting them in order of what you would like to do most.

My first choice was Assistant Producer, 2nd Production Manager/Floor Manager, 3rd VT Producer.

For these jobs we were told we needed to go in for an interview and take our CV's. I had my CV updated to be suitable for the role.

After the interview it was said that I gave a very good interview as well as a well written CV.

Studio Production- Pitch

This is my Pitch for the studio production, this includes treatment document and power point.

Feedback;

  • VT's were not well thought and could be used better
  • Is very similar to a BBC show called Telly Addicts
  • Raising the question do I have the right Channel in mind E4 don't do game shows so should that be changed?
  • E4 does not currently show any Quiz shows, may be better on Channel 4
This is a clip from the BBC show…...

Studio Production- Pitch Research

After having a tutorial with Helen I decided to go more into detail with the quiz show as it has more potential.

The quiz show is going to be interactive with the contestants as they will be helping each other try and win points. There will be two teams, each with 3 contestants. The contestants will be having 3 rounds in which to win points.

Round 1;

Theme Tunes-
One of the team members must guess what the others are humming, this is a game of knowing you television theme tunes. 5 points per theme tune guessed.

Round 2;

Guess the Character-
One contestant is given a card with the name and phrase of a famous TV character, they need to do an impression of the character to their team members. In this round they may be assisted by an item on clothing. 10 points per character guessed.

Round 3;

What's Missing?-
In this round all three players are playing together in an attempt to guess the missing word for the TV title. This is a quick fire round with both teams participating at the same time. 5 points per correct TV title.

The winning team will be the one with most points through out the rounds.

Round 1 has a similarity with Never Mind the Buzzcocks;

Round 2 is to guess the character with a phrase such as Peggy Mitchell;
Round 3 is to guess the name such as The --- Bang Theory.

Studio Production- Research Schedule

Schedules;

While thinking about the times and channels, I looked at the shows being played on the channels at the moment and where I think my program would fit.

Idea 1 would fit into BBC 3 on Wednesday night 9pm. When the broadcaster is showing Sun, Sex and  Suspicious Parents, I think it would be an appropriate replacement.

Idea 2 would fit into E4 on Monday 10pm. This is when the broadcaster is showing, Rude Tube, which is a review of the most popular YouTube videos. I think the quiz could fit well there.

The channels I have chosen have the same type of audience aims which fits my idea of what I would like the audience to be.

Studio Production- Ideas

We were asked to come up with 2 basic ideas for the pitch. The brief out lines the pitch and what is needed.

30 min, Pilot, New and Original

Idea 1;
Panel Show

  • 3 Panel list, Comedian, Social Media, Expert in Television
  • Review of Television shows, New shows, New Series
  • BBC 3, 18-30
  • VT- Introduction into how to win points
Idea 2;
Quiz Show
  • 6 Contestants, 2 Teams
  • Quiz of General Knowledge, Television Shows, Theme Tunes
  • E4, 18-30
  • VT- Team Introductions

Studio Production- Brief

Project Brief

This is the brief for the project;

Your Idea Should Allow For;

  • Two distinct halves to the programme
  • 4xVT insert
  • Viral Marketing in order to research your audience
  • A title sequence and credits
  • A studio audience
The Pitch should include:
  • The idea
  • Title
  • Format
  • The Channel/broadcaster/target audience/ schedule
While thinking of the idea we need to look at the brief and make sure that the idea has the elements necessary.
